Gait and the Manual therapist
Instructor:
Brett Windsor PT, OCS, COMT, FAAOMPT (click for bio)

Overview
What do you do with gait? What role does it play for the manual therapist? How can you effectively and efficiently assess gait without video equipment and reams of forms and angles and measurements? When are gait dysfunctions important? When are they not so important? How do gait dysfunctions relate to the most common lower quarter problems that physical therapists see in the clinic? Finally…how do you assess gait in normal people?

Description
This two-day (14 hrs, 75% practical, 25% lecture) course will develop the participant’s skills in the problem of gait. The course will center around the development of a logical, progressive mechanism for effectively and efficiently assessing gait. Attention will be paid to understanding what features are important – what dysfunctions display frequently and what do they mean? Assessment sequences and the relationship of gait dysfunctions to the most common lower quarter syndromes will be provided. The course is specifically aimed at the orthopedic manual therapist.

The course material will include pre-course reading and a course handout.

The instructor to student ratio will be no greater than 1:6. Extensive supervision and practice time is critical to learning these skills and will be provided for in class.
