Mind of an Expert:
Use and analysis of objective and functional lumbo-pelvic tests.
Instructor:
Ann Porter Hoke PT, DPT, OCS, FCAMT, FAAOMPT

Overview
A workshop exploring how a manual therapy expert utilizes and analyzes objective test results, compares research evidence to clinical evidence, and predicts outcomes and treatment risk.

Description
In order to provide the most relevant context, the workshop will be adapted to student needs. Within this format, the following areas will be covered:

  • The purpose of objective/examination tests
  • The foundation of tests:
    • applied anatomy
    • biomechanics
    • palpation
  • Accuracy and consistency in testing
  • Clinical and research evidence of “best tests”
  • Clusters of tests
  • Efficient testing with minimal risk and time
  • Joint and soft tissue testing of the lumbar spine, sacro-iliac and hip (primarily mobility and stress testing; minimal focus on alignment testing)
  • Functional and kinetic testing of the region

Objectives
At the end of the workshop, students will have:

  • compared the research and clinical evidence related to commonly used objective tests of the lumbo-pelvic region
  • increased resources for selection of “best tests”
  • demonstrated ability to efficiently perform and analyze common objective tests of the lumbo-pelvic region; and
  • increased skill as a practitioner in examination of neuro-musculoskeletal dysfunctions

An extensive manual and CD-ROM will also be provided.
