Overview
Course builds on skills learned in the UQI Course, specifically looking at advanced clinical reasoning and decision making with manipulation in the clinical setting. Particular attention will be paid to the upper cervical spine. This course is aimed at those who have taken the previous course or who are enrolled in an APTA accredited fellowship program.
Description
This two-day (14 hrs, 75% practical, 25% lecture) course will develop advanced clinical reasoning skills and clinical decision making skills with regards to manipulation (HVLAT) intervention techniques for the spinal joints of the upper quarter; in particular the upper cervical spine, including detailed attention to VBI and safety issues.
Emphasis will also be placed on manipulating in the presence of concomitant mechanical issues and in becoming more specific with technique.
The most recent evidence will be incorporated into the course; the course aims to develop specific locking skills, localization skills and the ability to use manipulation in difficult cases – particularly to manipulate in cases where there is no guidance from the evidence.
The course material will include pre-course reading and a course handout.
The instructor to student ratio will be no greater than 1:6. Extensive supervision and practice time is critical to learning these skills and will be provided for in class.
